Effect of high dietary calcium level on the tissue alkaline and acid phosphatase activities of rat

Male Wistar rats from 21 days old were given for 6 weeks a stock diet containing 0.4% Ca without or with CaCO3 to increase the Ca content to 2%. The high-Ca diet did not adversely affect the activity of alkaline phosphatase in the liver, small intestine, kidney and bone. While not affecting acid phosphatase activity of the liver and kidney, the high-Ca diet reduced that of the small intestine by 40%.
