The prevalence of drug therapy amongst dental patients

A survey of 1000 consecutive ambulatory dental patients revealed that approximately 1 patient in 5 was in receipt of drug therapy prescribed by medical practitioners (oral contraceptives and topical medicaments excluded). Tranquillo-sedatives and antibiotics were the most frequently prescribed types of drugs. Approximately 1 patient in 10 was receiving drugs that could have a bearing on some forms of dental treatment.
