Fractures of the head of the radius frequently are demonstrable radiographically even when no displacement is present. These appear as fine lines through some part of the articular surface of the radial head. Unfortunately, however, such fracture lines do not always show on routine anteroposterior and lateral views of the elbow or even on many of the oblique projections. The acute pain associated with such injuries, moreover, may limit extension as well as pronation and supination of the forearm. This, in turn, limits the positions that may be employed for the radiographic examination.
