In 20 curarized unanesthetized cats, evoked potentials were recorded in the proprioceptive cortical field to direct electrical stimulation of m. ectosylvius anterior and g. suprasylvius anterior. During the stimulation of the tendon and muscle in their natural connection the evoked potentials were a positively negative wave with a prominent initial positivity. When only the muscle body was stimulated the early positive component of the evoked potential disappeared completely, the recording consisted only of a negative wave in some cases with long course and multiplied oscillations. The disappearance of the positive spike in the evoked potential was explained by the absence of somesthetic impulses from the complex somesthetic-proprioceptive response due to experimental elimination of tendinoception and other receptors of deep somesthesia.
