According to the 1973 census in Malaysia, there were 189 985 water buffaloes, 4376 Murrah buffaloes, 265 244 working and draft cattle, 63 012 cows, 289 852 goats, 40 820 sheep, 728 939 pigs and 7 800 000 poultry. A brief description is given of the breeds used in the various types of livestock production.
