Macroglossia, transient neonatal diabetes mellitus and intrauterine growth failure: a new distinct entity?

A newborn girl small for gestational age with macroglossia and transient insulinopenic diabetes mellitus is described. The mother had flat glucose tolerance curves, no evidence of hyperinsulinism or malabsorption syndrome, and responses of plasma growth hormone and cortisol and urinary adrenaline to insulin-induced hypoglycaemia were adequate.
