Normal and treated (actinomycin D) embryos of Paracentrotus lividus were examined electron microscopically. The results confirm observed on Arbacia punctulata. Synthesis of ribosomal RNA necessary for gastrulation and differentiation of the successive skeletal structures was blocked by the drug. The ultrastructural details leading to this conclusion are described.
