Intravitreal Triamcinolone Acetonide injection seems to be a promising treatment for refractory diffuse diabetic macular edema. It will not replace the gold standard of focal laser photocoagulation but rather be an option to consider in a group of patients for which we could offer very little in the past. As more studies are done and longer follow up is allowed, some form of intraocular steroid treatment will likely become a mainstream option for the retina specialist to offer to our patients.
