In 32 rats from 1-20 wk old the time course of changes in vertebromedullary topography were studied with the aim of facilitating the exact determination of the spinal cord segments in experimental operations. The results were described in a graph. The relative shortening of the spinal cord in the spinal canal lasted up to the 7th wk in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar cord, while relative shortening of the sacral part continued up to the age of 4 mo.
