An analysis of diurnal catecholamine excretion was effected clinically by the method of parallel determination (fluorometrically) in 20 patients with chronic Mn poisoning . Significant shifts in the diurnal excretion of dopamine and norepinephrine by comparison with controls were registered. In patients of this group the mechanisms controlling the transformation of dopamine from its precursor dioxyphenylalanine were intact. This fact served as a theoretical background to the use of dioxyphenylalanine-dopa for treating patients with the said syndrome. Medication of 10 patients produced a substantial effect in reducing extrapyramidal disturbances.
