Evidence for post-synaptic mechanism in exteroceptive suppression elicited in the human masseter muscle

The early and late exteroceptive suppressions (ES I and ES II) recorded after delivering a single stimulus to the lip mucosa presented similar temporal features on reflex and on voluntary evoked masseter muscle activity. Both suppressions may involve post-synaptic inhibitory mechanisms which are likely to have different locations on the soma-dendritic membrane of masseter motoneurons.
