Glycemia and insulinemia during intravenous glucose infusion in children

Blood glucose and immunoreactive insulin were estimated in 7 healthy children of healthy parents, 16 children of diabetic parents, 6 obese children, 29 to 85% overweight, of healthy parents and 6 children with recently diagnosed diabetes before treatment with insulin. Among the children with a family history of diabetes and the obese children some had signs of carbohydrate intolerance but normal insulin values and some had impaired carbohydrate tolerance and relatively high insulin values.
