Pneumoperitoneography is an established aid to diagnosis in man, and in more than 75 studies in primates, the authors showed that the technique is simple, safe, practicable and helpful. Avoiding the injection of gas into subcutaneous tissue or into the bowel is not difficult and the entire study can be made in less than 15 minutes. There is little risk of causing discomfort to the patient or of exposing the operator to excessive radiation.
