Gonadotropins were determined in intact and castrated males of Passer domesticus at different stages of the sexual cycle. Changes luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone in the adenohypophysis and peripheral blood correlated with gonadal development. With castration, the production of gonadotropins by the adenohypophysis is not disturbed, which suggests an inner rhythm of hypothalamic function which is independent of seasonal changes in the sex hormones.
