Investigations on the behavior of the human placenta and of the amnion epithelium barriers against thiazinic and indigoid dyes placed in contact with both surfaces of the system, shaved that while methylene blue penetrate through the placenta, the carmine indigo does not. The elimination of methylene blue through fetal urine starts some time after the delivery. Both methylene blue and carmine indigo, if injected in the amniotic cavity, enter the maternal blood. This shows that there is more permeability between the fetus-mother circulatory system than between tee motherfetus one.
