The authors refer to the answers which followed their first communication in the Munch. med. Wschr. (1956), Nr. 14, p. 492-496. The Francis-report was criticized not only by German but also by a number of foreign authors, in particular by the American statistician Brownlee, who stated that the statistical rudiments of the report were incorrect. The far-reaching conclusions, which Vivell drew from the numbers given in the Francis-report, cannot therefore be acknowledged as they are based on insufficient scientific foundations. Furthermore, it is pointed out that the difficulties in obtaining a satisfactory virus-inactivation by formaldehyde are not yet overcome in any way. A suggestion is made for enhancing the security (by removal of the amino-acids before formaldehyde is added). The problem if, respectively to what extent, healthy children, who are vaccinated by allegedly incontestable vaccine, can become virus-carriers, is still not clarified. It is again emphasized that Ratner's suggestion of. clarifying this problem by an adequate number of stool-examinations of the vaccinated persons, is the only possible way to abolish still existing objections against the performance of mass-vaccinations.
