Studies on the immunological factor in the sterility of married couples

Antibodies in a sperm-cervical mucus pattern were tested by Katsh's micro double-diffusion agar test in 56 casually selected couples. Other causes of sterility were excluded. During the preparation of the immuno-diffusion sperm test and the Kurzrock-Miller penetration test, the cervical mucus pattern, crystallization and coherence of cervical mucus were estimated, and full morphological tests of the sperm and pH of both substances were accomplished. In all cases blood group, Rh factor and natural, immunological and anti-Rh (D) antibodies were estimated. In persons with A, B and AB blood group, the presence of group substances in the sperm and cervical mucus was estimated. The results were analyzed statistically. Antibodies were found in the sperm-cervical mucus pattern in 21 couples, i.e., 37.5% of testd material; the frequency of the presence of immunological antibodies in blood serum was twice as high in women than in men and 3 times higher in cervical mucus than in sperm. Most of the positive results of the immuno-diffusion test were found in those couples in whose case the husband's sperm indicated a high number of spermatozoons.
