The haemolytic effect in vitro of the venom and haemolymph of Loxosceles laeta (Nicolet) and of extracts of the cephalothorax, abdominal wall, abdominal contents and eggs of the spider on the erythrocytes of man, mouse, guineapig, hamster, rabbit, cat, dog, sheep, chicken, toad, frog and one species of fresh-water fish was investigated. The venom did not show haemolytic activity in any vertebrate, but the haemolymph and the other tissues tested caused haemolysis in different degrees of the erythrocytes of all vertebrates.
