The fluorescent karyotype of the tachnid fly Voria ruralis Fallén (Diptera)

It was shown in laboratory investigations in Arizona with the aid of a fluorescent microstaining technique that the diploid chromosome number of Voria ruralis (Fall.), a Tachinid that parasitises Trichoplusia ni (Hb.), was 12, there being five pairs of autosomes and one of sex chromosomes. The structure and pattern of the chromosomes is described and discussed.
