The clinical and pathological features of a respiratory syndrome due to pulmonary thrombo-embolism resulting from thrombosis of the posterior vena cava are described in the cattle. The major clinical features were anaemia resulting from haemoptysis, and widespread rhonchi. Other signs which were of some help in establishing a diagnosis were thoracic paid and hepatomegaly. The major pathological findings within the thorax were pulmonary haemorrhage, which in seven cases proved fatal following erosions of pulmonary arterial wall, and embolic pulmonary abscesses. In eight cases the caval thrombus arose as a result of extension of a nearby abscess, but in four instances the underlying cause was not determined.
