In the spring of 1996, administrators from the New York University (NYU) Medical Center and The Mount. Sinai Medical Center informally announced to their respective faculty, stall, and students that merger negotiations between the two had been initiated arid were progressing favorably. By June, a formal statement of their intent to merge was announced, ending months of minors among students about the futures of their medical schools.
