Various obstetrical operations (caesarean section, correction of position or presentation, foetotomy) were required in 76 cows. The bacteria most commonly isolated from these uteri following the operations were Escherichia coli (55 strains), alpha streptococci (40) and Micrococcus albus (12). Chemotherapy was given by inserting boluses of Bay Va9391 with or without Tardomyocel. Each bolus contained 2.25g of the active ingredient, carbamoyl-quinoxaline-di-N-oxide. The boluses incorporating 500000 IU Tardomyocel proved to be the more effective in reducing intrauterine growth of bacteria.
