In a new method of isolation and extracorporeal perfusion of whole pig stomachs, each stomach was perfused with homologous blood of a living supporting pig, serving as oxygenator and dialyser. Secretion was stimulated by the constant infusion of histamine or pentagastrin into the gastric artery. All stomachs secreted juice containing hydrogen ion and pepsin. This new experimental technique can be used for the study of secretory gastic function in swine, a species which frequently develops peptic ulcers.
