For almost two years, Connie and Thomas Smrecek of Waconia, Minn., suffered flu-like symptoms. Their physician could find nothing wrong. Strep throat cultures came back negative. Their oldest boy, Jason, began having difficulties in school, and tests revealed organic brain degeneration. The parents were desperate, but it was not until they saw a television program on formaldehyde poisoning that they began to suspect that it was air they were breathing inside their house that might be making them so sick.
