African (Papio cynocephalus), gelada (Theropithecus gelada) and hamadryas (P. hamadryas) baboons were exposed to 500 to 4,000 Schistosoma haematobium cercariae and observed up to post-mortem examination 11 weeks to 2 years after infection. The baboons served as good hosts for investigating S. haematobium infection. The schistosomes developed well and there was marked involvement of the genito-urinary system. Massive involvement of male and female internal genitalia was frequent. Pathology is described in detail and illustrated by 22 photographs and photomicrographs. Baboons repeatedly exposed to small numbers of S. haematobium cercariae were partially resistant to new infections.
