Clinical trials of Sequilar, a new sequential oral contraceptive, in 1031 patients (8545 treatment cycles) are reported. No pregnancies occurred in the treatment group. Most of the treatment cycles were 26-30 days long, and pseudoamenorrhea was observed in only 10 treatment cycles. Breakthrough bleeding and spotting were rare and were correlated with forgotten medication. Side effects were few, minor, and tended to diminish after the first 3 cycles. No serious cardiovascular complications were observed. 1 patient developed mild superficial thrombophlebitis during the 10th treatment cycle; Sequilar treatment was discontinued immediately and symptoms disappeared in a few days.
