Organic mercury poisoning in children

Patients were 14 girls and 12 boys 3 to 16 years old from 16 families in Iraq. They had all eaten poisoned wheat and were moderately to seriously ill on admission. Neurological signs were common in all but there was no sign of toxic effect on the kidneys and the cardiovascular and haemopoietic systems were not involved. There were gastrointestinal signs in 12 patients and 4 had skin disorders.
