Two methods for examining the cells in normal and pathological CSF of animals are compared: cell centrifugation and membrane filtration. The forms seem useful only for highly pleocytotic fluids. Millipore filtration was preferred because of its extremely efficient cell concentration, which is important for the study of samples with low cell counts (e.g. normal CSF), especially in small animals in which the quantity of fluid available is sometimes very limited.
