Most of a group of 40 calves 1-3 weeks old became ill with diarrhoea 2-3 days after transportation to another farm. Early cases failed to respond to chloramphenicol, sulphonamides or an anti-diarrhoea preparation. Enteritis due to Escherichia coli was diagnosed in a calf that died. 34 calves survived after i/m inj. of 40 mg gentamicin at intervals of 12 hours for 3-4 days.
