Many of the patients (63% of urban group and 46% of urban group) had taken either herbals or homeopathic drugs in order to be relieved permanently. Unfortunately 29.4% rural group and 9.3% of urban group patients had the belief that the disease was due to curse of God and shouted the help of "Mantras and Tartars". Also 43.1% of rural group and 29.7% of urban group had taken drugs till their urine and/or blood sugar became normal and after that they had stopped medicine thinking to be cured, compliance was good if there was complication of the disease and again discontinued the drug when recovered from the complication. Hence management of diabetes will remain a problem in rural area or Orissa till socio-economic status will be improved.
