It is suggested that reproductive states prevent the function of primary aging mechanisms by mimicking its effects temporarily. For example, induced sterility during pregnancy, lactation or pseudopregnancy retards the subsequent onset of sterility in neonatally androgenized female rats as compared to virgin females.
