For three consecutive weeks a questionnaire was administered to 149 parents that took children under age 13 to Dr. Pila Hospital Family Practice Center. Information was obtained about their understanding of fever and its management. In our study we found parents who had no knowledge about what temperature is considered fever. As a result, there may be children who have been unnecessarily treated for temperatures that are normal. Others failed to recognize high fever and delayed treatment. The findings of this study are consistent with the idea that, in general, there is little knowledge about the definition of fever and its treatment, which suggests the need of an educational program.
