The action of the best known antibiotics on syphilis and some other diseases is noted. 104 cases of syphilis treated with penicillin were followed, with 21% relapses at a dosage of 2,400,000 U. and 15% at 4,500,000. Penicillin is the most effective drug in early cases; in late cases penicillin therapy should be combined with arsenic, bismuth or malaria therapy. Streptomycin is useful in some skin conditions and is the drug of choice in inguinal granuloma and chancroid.
