Immunoglobulins of the Indian buffalo

Using immunoelectrophoresis and rabbit anti-buffalo immunoglobulin serum, 6 antigenically distinct classes of immunoglobulins (IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, IgA1, IgA2 and IgM) were tentatively identified in serum and 4 (IgG1, IgA1, IgA2 and IgM) in colostral whey of Indian buffaloes. A close antigenic homology was indicated by comparative immunoelectrophoresis and gel diffusion studies between the serum and colostral immunoglobulins of the buffalo, and between these and corresponding cow immunoglobulins.
