面部的骨结构、软组织、牙体均可存在一些与面部美学标准有明显差异的面部美学缺陷，当正畸治疗解决患者主诉后，患者治疗前就已存在的其他面部美学缺陷可能被暴露或被放大。因此，正畸医师应全面检查患者口腔及颌面部的美学问题，在诊断、设计并实施正畸治疗解决主要问题的同时，注意次要问题的改变及其他不可控因素，清晰地认识潜在的风险，并作好防控措施。.
