The indirect fluorescent antibody technique may be used as an alternative or confirmatory test for the detection of antibody to pantropic Rift Valley fever virus in serum from sheep and cattle and to Smithburn's neurotropic strain in serum from sheep. In cattle the fluorescent antibody to Smithburn's neurotropic strain persisted for only a short time.
