1. Thirty-two pairs of ovaries were analysed for- morphological changes in women who had the combined tablet of oral contraceptive for -a varying period of 1-8 months. 2. The ovaries in gross appearance gave evidence of either inactive post-menopausal organs or they had numerous atretic inactive follicles, devoid of corpora lutea. 3. Histologically the ovaries gave evidence of: (i) Flattening of epithelium of cyst wall. (ii) Increased fibrosis of the atretic (iii) Granulosa cells in the process of disintegration. (iv) Luteinization of follicular cyst. (v) Vacuoles present in the luteinized cells. (vi) Hypercellularity of ovarian cortex. (vii) Fibrosis of ovarian cortex. (viii) Increased vascularity. (ix) Hyaline material inside the degenerating maturing follicles. (x) Increase in the odema fluid of the ovary. (xi) Atretic follicles at various phases of degeneration.
