Norwegian youth have a pressing need for sex education. Every 4th abortion patient is under 20 years of age. In 1971 the average age for a 1st marriage decreased to 22.2 years, the marriage frequency among 19-year-olds was 140% higher, and 1 out of every 10 19-year-olds has a child. 45.7 illegitimate children were born for every 1000 15-19 year olds, twice as many compared with 1951-1955. An increase in divorces, particularly for women under 25 years of age, is evident. The school system guided by physicians and supported by parents, must provide adequate sex education to enable teenagers to see sex as a responsibility.
