Sporothrix schenckii was isolated from lesions near the nose of a 10-yr-old boy bitten by a rat. Attempts to isolate the fungus from the oral mucosa of 50 healthy albino rats and intradermal tests with sporotrichin all failed. The role of animal vectors of the fungus is pointed out.
