E. crassipes plants were grown in pond water in plastic buckets. Sodium fluoride equivalent to 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 ppm. was added to the water together with 1.5 litres Hewitt's nutrient mixture per bucket. A control was run with fluoride without nutrient mixture. E. crassipes can take up to 75 mg of fluoride per plant from water but cannot be used for defluorization because of high threshold value.
