Examination of the hearts of 6 dogs with clinical manifestations of atrioventricular valve insufficiency, or in which clinical examination had suggested mitral valve insufficiency or some other heart condition, and also the hearts of 29 dogs with diseases other than heart disease and 5 clinically normal dogs revealed endocardiosis of the atrioventricular valve in 82 dogs. The frequency of chronic valvular disease increased with age. Endocarditis was seen in addition to endocardiosis in 9 dogs. Valvular amyloidosis was found in 6 dogs. See also V.B. 43, abst. 2201.
