The many benefits derived from endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery, such as early post-operative recovery, improved quality of life, and reduced medical costs, have fueled much anticipation regarding the more widespread use and further progress of these techniques. The procedural and the technological advance are both key factors in this progress. What follow are overviews of the technologies concerning high-frequency electrocautery unit for endoscopy, ultrasonic coagulating scissors, and two manipulation systems, as state-of-art technologies for therapeutic apparatus. Not only the progress of each technology in energy apparatus and manipulation system but also the combination of these technologies, will contribute to safer and more user-friendly therapies possible.
