The article deals with the impact of gross domestic product on labor potential of water transport workers in the Sakhalin oblast in 2001-2008. The strong negative relationship is established between the increase of actual gross domestic product and the disability adjusted healthy life years loss due to the disability or premature mortality (r = - 0.83). The negative and very strong relationship is established between the increase of actual gross domestic product and premature disability (r = -0.926) and between the increase of actual gross domestic product and premature mortality (r = -0.884). The correlation between gross domestic product and losses of temporary disability morbidity is not established (r = -0.083).
