Determination of thyroid function in cattle by the T3-in-vitro test

The T3 test and the PBI test were compared in four heifers with artificially induced hypofunction of the thyroid and one heifer with hyperfunction. The results agreed only in the heifer with hyperfunction. Minor disturbances of thyroid function are not detected with the T3 test, which is not suitable as a screening test for cattle.
