Plants of 3 poinsettia cvs, potted singly in 16.5cm-diameter pots on 31 August, were pinched on 14 September allowing 5, 8 or 11 leaves to remain. On 30 September a spray of Cycocel at 1500 p.p.m. a.i. was applied. Bract number and size were recorded on 9 December. Both bract number and plant height increased with the number of leaves retained after pinching, but the bract size diminished. Plant width was unaffected by pinching severity. Plants pinched to retain 11 leaves were unattractive and harder pinching is recommended.
