Mucinous cystadenoma of the ovary presenting as unilateral lower extremity edema

Mucinous cystadenomas of the ovary are known for their potential to grow to massive proportions and are often incidentally diagnosed. They are typically benign tumors accounting for 15% of ovarian neoplasms and up to 80% of all mucinous tumors. We report a 50-year-old, morbidly obese female admitted with left lower extremity edema who was incidentally found to have a massive, benign, mucinous cystadenoma of the ovary. The tumor was managed by laparotomy, cystectomy, and right salpingo-oophorectomy. Pathology revealed a benign cyst. The clinically silent course of these large, benign tumors can have unique presentations.
