Nowadays, fixed partial dentures (FPDs) are usually used in clinic; meanwhile, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become one of the most powerful diagnostic tools in radiology and diagnostic sciences. However, as FPDs can not be taken off arbitrarily, they will produce artifacts in MRI images, which will reduce the quality of images, when the patient with metallic prosthesis in his mouth is subject to MRI scans of the head and neck region. Many scholars have devoted themselves to the study of artifacts produced by fixed partial dentures for a long time. The research methods, characteristics and results are reviewed in this paper.
