Results of HIV sentinel epidemiological surveillance among sex workers in Osh city in 2005 are presented. Prevalence of HIV-infection, HCV-infection and syphilis among sex workers was 2%, 5.5%, and 15.5% respectively. The reasons of high prevalence of HIV-infection were: unprotected sex (17.9 - 53.5%), presence of sex transmitted diseases (43%) and injecting drug users (7%). The level of awareness about modes of HIV transmission and measures for protection is relatively low (54.8% and 42% respectively) and not enough for the change of behavior.
