Synergism of amphotericin B with other antimicrobial agents

A brief discussion of the literature concerning synergism of amphotericin B with 5-fluorocytosine, rifampicin, tetracycline, mycophenolic acid glucuronide and actinomycin D is presented. It is considered that drugs which are synergistic for fungi would be particularly indicated in acute central nervous system infection with Cryptococcus neoformans and rapidly progessive disseminated histoplasmosis, in which there may be insufficient time for amphotericin B alone to work.
