According to the WHO, the consequences of increasing obesity in the industrialized nations represent the greatest challenge that will have to be met by the national economies in the next decade. Apart from the known comorbidities, pain is a major factor responsible for the diminishment of quality of life in the overweight patient. Pain may be due to psychological, static or metabolic consequences of obesity, and requires an individual therapeutic approach.
